Course Description

American Canyon Ultramarathon and Trail Race

We are pleased to announce that this year marks the 7th anniversary for the American Canyon Ultramarathon and trail race.

This race will be held on February 4, 2017. To commemorate this anniversary, we will be partnering with our sponsors Fleet Feet Fairoaks/Roseville, UltrAspire and GU Energy Labs to provide ultra/trail specific schwag and presenting top finishers with awards. Everyone will enjoy the post race barbecue, soup and chili.

Sign up early as we are limiting registrations in order to keep the low-key, personal feel of this race and to minimize the impact on our host venue, the Auburn State Recreation Area.

Distances and elevation profiles

All distances start and finish at the Auburn Dam Overlook Park. Runners will follow portions of the Tevis Cup and Western States Trails to the historic Mountain Quarries Bridge known by locals as No Hands Bridge. 15 km runners will turn around just past the No Hands Aid Station and head back up the hill to the finish line while 25 and 50 km runners will continue on the the Wendell T. Robie trail. After a gentle but steady climb of 1-1/2 miles, 50 km runners will turn onto the Shortcut Trail while 25 km runners continue on Wendell T. Robie up to the Olmstead Loop Trail. 25 km runners need to remember to turn off of the Olmstead Loop and onto the Robie Trail before reaching Highway 49. 25 km runners DO NOT continue to the Fire Station (people make this mistake every year).

50 km and 25 km runners meet up again briefly at the Upper Highway 49 Crossing Aid Station where 25 km runners turn around and head back the way they came to the finish line. 50 km runners cross Highway 49 and continue up the Quarry Trail to American Canyon where they will cross American Creek twice and then Hoboken Creek. Runners then pick up the Western States Trail again and head down to the Maine Bar/ALT Aid Station.

From Maine Bar, runners follow a gentle section of single track to Browns Bar and then up Goat Hill. After some rolling hills, runners find themselves back at the Upper Highway 49 Aid Station. After a quick stop, runners retrace their steps back to the finish line.
